More days of Experimenting with bismuth crystals. It is really difficult getting the bismuth into the crystals and you have to have patients and time. So my partners and I kept on trying and trying, What we did differently was we messed with the time, put the bismuth in different places on the hot plate when we had to cool it down we tried different times. I think one time we got the right crystal just one small one though.
My partners and I wanted to make bismuth crystals because we thought it would be cool and interesting to make jewelry out of the bismuth and also to see how it is developed into crystals. What we did was we put the bismuth into two small pans but it on a hot plate the temperature at the highest on the how plate, waited for the Bismuth to melt which took about 10-20 min.Than when it was melted we put the bismuth into a the bigger pan letted it cool down on the table we waited for about 5 min our crystals did not come out right, but we didn't give up we tried again and it wasnt wasnt successfully but we thought maybe it was the timing of how long we waited so we did it longer. Today my partner wasn't here so me and some other class mates made stress ball. The stress ball materials we needed was cornstarch, water, and a balloon. during the experiment it was a lot of fun not boring i rely enjoy working on oobleck. during the mixing the cornstarch and the water it was difficult because we either had to much water or not enough water. what we did after we mixed them together we had a funnel and underneath the funnel was the ballon. we put the obbleck into the ballon and after the oobleck got into the ballon we double tide it and put another ballon on top that way it doesn't pop.
We came into class and we looked at our crystals and they turned out pretty good than what I had thought they were going to come out to be in the pan. we cleaned the crystals than we put them in water and watch them. it was the end of class so we had to put them in the
We grabbed a hot plate and we let it sit for about an hour while it was on the hot plate we updated our DP and discussed our next experiment and about an hour past by and it looked like a honey color so my partner took it off and put in the fume hood and left in there for the rest of the period and over the weekend.
We grabbed all the things we needed for the crystals which was:
A tray 2 beakers for the baking soda and vinegar vinegar baking soda a weigher stirring rod and a spoon Then after that we started to put 500 ml of vinegar in the tray. we had to weigh the baking soda to 28 mg which was really hard for us because it the one where u have to move it. Than after that we added the baking soda but we had to add it very slowly while we were doing that it was bubbling. After we added it all we had to look for a hot plate but there wasn't any available so we put it in the fume hood. My partners and I started the research on the crystals. We looked on his DP for the instruction it said we needed baking soda, vinegar and a glass pan. We weren't so sure about making crystals or the lava lamp but we decided to do the crystals. we all figured out who was going to bring what, Than we decided to work on our DP and update it.
Our second experiment was with dry ice and seeing how well we could listen and watch out for stuff around us. Andrew had explained to us what dry ice was which was a dried carbon dioxide. Some of the students were familiar with dried ice and I hadn't I have heard about it but that is all i have never seen it with my eyes before. Today was the day I had gotten to see the dry ice and experiment on it. When Andrew had pulled it out it looked liked just a regular block of ice but as I was looking closely there was a lot of smoke coming from the dry ice. When Andrew handed me the dry ice he was saying juggle it I didn't know what he had meant by that but I got to my table and my hand started to burn so by than I knew what he had meant. My table and I got a flask and put water in it and the dry ice and it started to bubble and smoke was coming out of it. than the next thing we tried was we put the dry ice in a balloon and tied it and than the balloon started to expand and I found that really interesting because I wouldn't have thought it would make the balloon expand. After the whole experiment it was a good i really enjoyed it.
